The Myths Behind Asanas with Anastasia Biliri

On Sunday 30/3 the series of seminars The Myths behind the Asanas that ran this year with Anastasia Biliri was completed.

For us it was one of the nicest seminars ever held at the school and this was evident by your great participation for which we feel deeply grateful.

On the occasion of the postures, we travelled through great Indian myths, figures of sages like Vasistha and Ashtavakakra and stories of deities like Veerabhadra, Nataraja, Chandra and Kurma.  We touched on philosophical themes of Advaita Vedanta and Hatha Yoga, archetypes such as those of the Hero or the Sage, as well as inner themes such as anger, fear, trust, identification with the ego, the balance between gentleness and courage, touch and action.... Through these workshops, we wanted to provide a context that we feel is sadly sorely lacking in the sterile way yoga is taught today, limited to a simple recitation of postures...

The word myth comes from the word "mythos" (to tell, to narrate) with the modal "myeo" = to initiate/teach. With this approach, mythology can be seen as a very powerful method of self-knowledge and interpretation of our inner world.

The stories and teachings spill over into the Indian epics. See you next year for the next journeys!
